Origin Story

In 2005 a group of dedicated professionals, members of the Home Builders Association of Central NM advanced to the more formalized program that became Build Green NM.  This group had help from the National Association of Home Builders and adopted their Green Building Guidelines.  In 2007 the NM State Legislature recognized Build Green NM for it’s work and value and granted a “Sustainable Building Tax Credit” witch is in effect today and until 1/1/2028.  Since it’s inception Build Green NM has certified homes built to our standards by custom builders, production builders and even owner/builders.  We have certified over 11,000 homes built across the state.  Even today, over 20 years later, homes built to our Silver Level or above will meet the energy efficiency of homes built to todays “Code Minimum” standards.  Our program has been revised several times since inception and now offer our Gold and Emerald level certification to builders wanting to have a Better home for their buyers.
