Want to Build Green?     Here is a step-by-step guide to the process for Certifying under our ANSI National Green Building Standard (Standard).         Review the ANSI Standard.  This book is available from www.BuilderBooks.com and can also be found at HOLMANS in Albuquerque (505-449-3800) Find out where you stand.  Go to the Green Scoring Tool at http://www.nahbgreen.org/ScoringTool.aspx   You will need to register at this website to use the scoring tool (no charge). REALLY IMPORTANT! You have two options to Score under the Scoring Tool.  You may only score using the option: National Green Building Standard for Build Green NM.  BGNM no longer accepts scoring under the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines.             As soon as you identify and score a project that you want to build to be certified by Build Green NM you will need to: a) Find an HERS Rater to review your plans and, later, to test your home’s energy performance (this list is a partial list as more raters are certified all the time). Third party home energy rating is required for all home certifications, which is not included in the certification fee.  The Energy Rater can give you an idea of how your home will perform in later energy efficiency assessments, and discuss the scheduling and fees. b) Find a NAHB Verifier from the list at: http://www.nahbgreen.org/Certification/findverifier.aspx  Build Green NM only uses verifiers approved from this list.  Money Saving Tip:  Many Verifiers are also HERS Raters as well.  Ask if they provide both services. Register your project with Build Green NM.  We require registration be submitted with the $50 registration fee no later than Framing Phase. Build away! Your certification materials do not need to be submitted to Build Green until your certification packet is complete with all testing, verification and support documentation. Your Verifier and the Scoring Tool will help you understand all needed documentation, when to test and when verification inspections occur. Fees for certifications vary depending on level of certification achieved and are discounted for BGNM and HBA members.  Fees are listed on the project registration form. This form is being revised and will indicate all needed materials for submission to BGNM for Certification.
